Wow! What a great article. Extremely well thought out and articulated. Very helpful in helping understanding all that has or has not happened in a very structured and detailed account of what has and is happening in Chico. I truly appreciated your article.

Wow, this really hits the nail on the head. It’s exactly why I’m looking to leave Chico. I just don’t see it as a place where I want to raise a family. The city keeps heading in the wrong direction and seems to be digging itself into a deeper hole. While I understand wanting to preserve that small-town feel, the reality is Chico continues to turn away new housing developments and businesses in an effort to keep shoppers local. But in doing so, it's stalling progress and holding the city back.

On top of that, the homeless population seems to be growing rapidly. Encampments are now taking over parks and even the City Plaza — areas that used to be family-friendly spaces. Can anyone explain how a so-called small hometown is just allowed to be taken over like this? It’s heartbreaking to watch a place with so much potential fall apart because of poor leadership and refusal to adapt.

It's unfortunate you skip right over the worst man made disaster of all - COVID. The mismanagement by ALL of our leaders, starting with the Supervisors who are culpable for all the harms and deaths, to Chico Unified who contributed to at least ONE death of a student by suicide when they REFUSED to accommodate simple requests to move her out of chemistry BY ZOOM which she was failing and that was NOT ACCEPTABLE to this young woman, and they REFUSED to move her to the schedule where her friends were when they finally returned to PARTIAL schedules. THAT MOM appeared before the school board two weeks after her daughter's death and got ZERO reply by the horrific Superintendent Kelly Staley. I brought so much to the Chico City Council when Xavier Becerra decided to visit Chico and paid Butte County $225k to HUNT children IN CHICO (HIS DEMAND) to increase those COVID vaccination rates. I ASKED CITY COUNCIL to do everything to stop a deadly vaccine clinic from parking at the Chico Mall one Friday night when they had a DISNEY MOVIE playing for free. All they had to do was call the Mall Management who told ME they were being pressured by the County. Because our former HHS Secretary demanded action and PAID THE SUPERVISORS to run these pop up clinics through Chico from March to June 2022. DOESN'T THAT ANGER ANYONE BESIDES ME? I will never go to Sierra Nevada Brewery who participated in this Becerra Pediatric Challenge. I videotaped the entire thing. AND A YOUNG MAN DIED from their shot at the brewery that day in June. Unbelievable you let this all go without one single comment.

Its a good meaningful read, thanks for taking the time to put it together.

Chico has a defect in its leadership structure, until we have an elected mayor who leads our mid size city its going to be more circle game. How do we fix that ?

Also, I dont have a gripe with this council, it appears well balanced unlike the last council , they continue to be underserved by head staff. Unfortunatly that sits with the current city manager who I have alot of respect for.

I almost feel PTSD just READING what we have all witnessed in real time‼️ Agree 100%‼️ Our “leaders” are WEAK, & citizens aren’t up to the fight when none of it is FAIR & at times, VIOLENT ‼️
